Something boring, something guessed.

A Royal Wedding.

The news of Prince Charles and Camilla’s, April 8th wedding was, I am sure, meant to have created some public buzz. What with them being royalty, and the closest thing to some fairytale scenario. Undoubtedly this wedding will dominate the papers, news, tv as well as bringing about a copious amount of useless memorabilia.

It is common knowledge that Camilla has always been the love of Charles’ life. The announcement of their wedding did not overwhelm the public with euphoria, as it had done with his marriage to Diana, it was just greeted with indifference. The point of the ceremony is somewhat pathetic. Granted, they might be in love. And she is the love of his life and they want to this for their relationship…. All it brings about is the questions as to why he married Diana in the first place. Everyone knew he and Camilla are in love and had been romantically involved for years since Diana’s death, and be it true of not, most people were under the assumption that this was going on shortly after Diana’s death if not before it.

Well, why wait so long to actually get married? It was an obvious tactic employed, to ensure the British public had had enough time to mourn it’s beloved Princess and to get used to Camilla being in the Prince’s life.

Which goes only to prove how utterly pointless the monarchy and royals are. Princess Diana’s death has such an effect on the United Kingdom and the world, because she was that fairytale story of a girl turned Princess. A celebrity. It was nothing to do with any fondness toward to royal family. Only to that childhood fantasy and ideal we have all seen and heard: Walt Disney was our teacher. Charles and Diana were just the closest reality to this idealist world we were shown when all our innocence and naivety fogged our eyes.

And now that the generation has seen the reality of fairytales, that they really do not exist, this marriage is just… like any other political marriages. I mean, honestly, who would care if any other PM was getting married?

No one.

A divorce would be somewhat more sale worthy. Infidelity, definitely.

But a marriage, of someone who is in nothing more than a historical and soon becoming only a tourist figure, means nothing to almost every person. There are obviously, the pro-monarchy obsessives who will think differently. And those people who cannot believe that Charles would disrespect the Oh So Holy Princess Diana with the disease of his heart. But generally…

I think the words on the nations lips are: “so what?”
